November 22 update: Shelves almost empty near closing time. Go early. September 22 update: Now normal operation just like pre-covid. Prices gone up a little. Still recommended Line up outside door to place order, pay and pick up. So almost in store shopping but technically not. Taste and quality remained good to excellent. Recommended

This is hands down the best bakery in SoCal. While Sheng Kee in the Bay Area has fluffier bread and more cream (albeit maybe too much), the prices here are also extremely fair and the breads are classic Taiwanese- and Hong Kong-style offerings. They do make you pay in cash if you don’t hit $15 (which is harder than it sounds).

Kee Wah Bakery in Monterey Park is known for its delicious pastries and traditional Chinese baked goods. I recently visited and was thrilled to discover that it was featured in the show "Brothers Sun." The variety of treats, from mooncakes to pineapple buns, is impressive, and everything is fresh. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is inviting. If you're in the area, go and visit them!

The bbq pork pastry is hands down the best in have eaten , and I have tried many char-siu pastries and buns in several countries over 5decades. The delightful mouthwatering salty and sweet flavors just pop out , the flakiness of the pastry was heavenly. If you plan to eat any of the eggtarts which are almost as great, have the eggtarts first, then Work your way to the bbq pork pastry. Service was pleasant and professional.

Best bolo bun outside of Hong Kong. Especially if you order one to eat right away. They will heat it up for you, and slide in a glorious thick slice of cold butter. The temperature and texture contrast makes the bolo bun with butter irresistible.

I went to the Monterey Park branch of Kee Wah Bakery based in Hong Kong to get some egg tarts. I sampled 3 kinds - Kee Wah Original Egg Tart ($1.50); Portuguese Egg Tart ($1.70) and Signature Crispy Egg Tart ($1.50) They were all delicious, but my favorite was the original one. The Portuguese version was good, but I think Nata’s Bakery’s version is a little richer in taste. Still, this bakery is a solid option for egg tarts and probably other Chinese baked goods. Store was organized and clean.

The bolo yao is a must order. It is a toasted pineapple bun with a thick slab of butter in it. The butter melts slightly from the bun’s warmth and it is the perfect snack. There are three types of egg tarts. I got the Portuguese tart and it was a bit on the sweet side but really tasty
